Your journey begins in Delhi, the bustling metropolis that is home to more than 20 million souls. Visit some of the capital’s most emblematic spiritual monuments such as the Mughal era Jama Masjid mosque and the Raj era Laxminarayan Hindu temple before taking a scenic train journey to Rishikesh in the north. This sacred city is where the Ganges emerges from the narrow Himalayan valleys and where you spend five days of serene retreat at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram. Pilgrims have been flocking here for decades to devote themselves to sadhana, meditation, seva and satsang. Move on to Agra to experience one of India’s most ethereal sensations, sunrise over the Taj Mahal. The cleansing of the soul continues at Varanasi, the holy ‘City of Light’, where Buddha preached and where every day thousands of Hindus wash away their sins at the ghats on the banks of Ganges. This is a journey like no other, a pure quest for peace and tranquility through the exercise of spirituality, yoga and meditation.

The story of Delhi is a tale of two cities – the cluttered chaos of Old Delhi and the imperial elegance of New Delhi. Your immersion in Delhi life begins in the historic heart of the capital, where the Jama Masjid mosque is located. Its grace and space are in contrast to the labyrinthine alleys around it. Explore these very streets with a thrilling tricycle rickshaw ride though the backstreets of Old Delhi, weaving through the throngs of pedestrians, vehicles and beasts of burden that cram these ancient routes. See also the imposing Red Fort, which was the imperial city of the Mughals, and visit the Raj Ghat memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. In the afternoon, discover the halcyon days of the Raj with a sightseeing tour of New Delhi, passing the presidential palace, the national parliament, the Jaipur Column, the India Gate and more. Continue to Lakshmi Narayan Mandir and visit this large Hindu temple dating from the 1930s. Next we visit Humayun’s Tomb, where the second Mughal emperor is interred. The final visit is to Qutub Minar, at 238 ft the tallest stone tower in India and which has withstood wars and earthquakes since the late 12th century. Overnight at The Claridges Hotel in Delhi
